Home birth workshops

We offer an ongoing programme of Home Birth Workshops where you have the opportunity to meet Mums and Dads who have had their own babies at home and meet our lovely Community Midwives. We believe we are the only NHS Trust in the country to have a dedicated Midwife Lead for Home Birth, whose sole responsibility is to facilitate our Home Birth service.

We hold regular home birth workshops to raise awareness of home birth as an option for care in normal healthy maternities:

  • 20 May 2012, St Helier Hospital;

  • 8 July 2012, Epsom Hospital;

  • 23 September 2012, St Helier Hospital;

  • 25 November 2012, Epsom Hospital.

Please note that the workshop scheduled for 18 March 2012 at Epsom Hospital had to be cancelled.

We offer a two hour session open to everyone, there is no need to book! Come and meet enthusiastic and experienced Midwives and Mums and Dads who have had their babies at home with us. Our home birth workshops are always held on a Sunday afternoon and are a family friendly event.

The workshops are structured in a very informal way with an emphasis on one-one discussion and we set up displays of equipment, including home birth bag contents, oxygen and entonox cylinders and resuscitation equipment. We have an inflatable birth pool which is used for demonstration purposes and to encourage discussion about how you might want to have your baby.
