Our dedicated paediatric gastroenterology service cares for children with a wide range of gastrointestinal (GI) and nutritional problems, including children with severe constipation, gastroesophageal reflux (GORD) and oesophagitis, coeliac disease and chronic inflammatory bowel disease (CIBD).
We also care for a large number of children who have complex gastrointestinal and nutritional problems with neurodevelopmental disabilities. These include children with GORD and with gastrointestinal bleeding.
We provide a service for percutaneous gastrostomy, or gastrostomy buttons for long term enteral feeding.
The service is highly-regarded and has been growing steadily and treats patients from as far away as Coventry, Liverpool and Belfast.
The service was launched ten years ago by Dr Sonny Chong, a consultant paediatrician and gastroenterologist for the Trust.
The service now runs five to six endoscopy clinics per week with specialist equipment for children. Dr Chong also participates and conducts research on GORD, eosinophilic oesophagitis, and Crohn's disease.
