The paediatric nephrology services for children at Queen Mary's Hospital for Children (QMHC) are run by Dr Rim El-Rifai.
This includes the excellent outpatients services for patients with kidney problems, which are highly dependant on the children's dedicated x-ray department located within the same hospital, Children's pharmacy, and access to high class specialist imaging such as nuclear medicine, on site at St Helier Hospital.
The service caters for children of all ages: during pregnancy, since birth and until 18 years of age.
In addition to the general kidney disease clinics, and incontinence and wet children services, we have regular dedicated specialist clinics for children with complex kidney disease, urological surgical problems and special adolescent clinics for young people with kidney disease, which is run jointly between the paediatric team and the adult renal team.
These services are provided for the local children in a dedicated children's hospital by children trained clinicians.
Our paediatric nephrology services are highly appreciated by our patients and their parents. We have the only adolescent transition clinic for young people with kidney disease in the sector.
We have both secondary and tertiary renal services which will cater for the majority of children with kidney and urinary problems in the area.
We do not provide renal replacement therapy, transplantation or renal biopsies.
