Help for people with disabilities

Wheelchair access

All our hospitals are wheelchair accessible, and have disabled toilets and washing facilities in key locations.

Wheelchairs are available from the front entrances of the hospitals for a £1 coin deposit. If there are none available, please speak to a member of staff.

Disabled parking

At Epsom Hospital there are free parking bays for disabled badge holders outside A&E and each outpatient department.

At St Helier Hospital, free parking bays for disabled badge holders are located outside the main entrance.

If you use the dedicated disabled parking spaces in the main car park you will have to pay for parking like any other user of our car parks. Read more about parking at our hospitals.

At Sutton Hospital, there are free disabled parking bays next to the main entrance plus additional bays close to the entrance of the Chiltern Wing.

There are parking bays for disabled badge holders at Leatherhead and Nelson hospitals.

Patient transport service

If you have mobility problems, you can arrange for assistance in getting to the hospital through your GP. Please speak to your GP in good time before your appointment.

Community transport

Community transport is for people who cannot use conventional public transport services. This could be because they do not have access to these services or because they are unable to use it because of sensory and/or mobility problems.

Sensory impairment

Induction loops are available at the main receptions of all three hospitals. If you need a BSL signer, this can be arranged given prior notice. Please let staff know your requirements by calling the number on your appointment letter and give us as much notice as possible.

You can also let us know how best to contact you about future appointments – for example, by text rather than telephone.

Disability Information Centre Epsom (DICE)

DICE is located at Epsom Hospital. They provide a free, confidential information service for people with a disability, their relatives, friends and carers, as well as health professionals and service providers.

DICE run a voluntary car scheme to Epsom Hospital for Surrey residents with disabilities. Please give them as much notice as possible if you need to use this service.

A portable loop is also available from the DICE office to borrow and use around the hospital.
