Cases of C. difficile were cut from 268 in 2007-08 to 66 last year (2011-12). Prior to 2007-08, infections of C. difficile were recorded in a different way, meaning data prior to this is not comparable.
This is not by accident or chance: over recent years our doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, cleaners and other staff, have worked extremely hard to cut the number of infections at our hospitals.
We have also worked together with local people, our patients, and their visitors, friends and relatives, to make them aware of what they can do to help us in our fight against infections.
Our colleagues in the NHS - NHS London, NHS South West London and NHS Surrey - as well as the Health Protection Agency (HPA) have also supported the Trust in its ongoing drive to further reduce infections. Read more about how we tackle infection control
