Stefano, who joined us in February from the world renowned Children's Hospital Los Angeles, said: "I have only been here a short while, but it's going very well. There is a great atmosphere around the hospital and everyone has been very supportive.
"It seems to me that our hospitals are really well organised and not afraid of improving or pushing forward. I think that's incredibly important, and although I'm sure there will be challenges ahead, we'll work as hard as we can to make sure the paediatric surgery service continues to grow and improve."
Stefano spends his time at work performing day surgery for children, which can include circumcisions, hernias and other small procedures. He also runs clinics for pre-operative and follow-up appointments for his patients and their parents.
Stefano said: "I've known since medical school that I wanted to be a paediatric surgeon. I really enjoy working with children, and I know that for a lot of people, once you've worked with children, you'll find it very difficult to go back. I think that's certainly true for me.
"An average day starts at about 8 o'clock, where I meet with children and their parents for a pre-operative assessment. Understandably, parents can often be very anxious about the operation their child is about to undergo, so it's part of my job to reassure them and to help them understand what's going to happen and why.
"We go into theatre at about 8.30am and we usually do about five cases in the morning. Then after lunch, it's into my clinic where I see about 15 - 20 patients, either for their follow-up appointments or as a new referral. It can be a very varied day, but I always get a lot of satisfaction from it."
And, after a hard day at work, Stefano doesn't stop. He said: "My main passion is sailing. I love it. Unfortunately though, because I have just moved to Wimbledon, I haven't quite been able to organise my next trip or race.
"But I keep myself fit by running, and I also really enjoy watching the shows at the theatre - which is something that London's really good for."
