Sally joined the Trust in September 2008, and has got well and truly stuck into the role. She said: "I really enjoy it here. There are some great benefits of working for an organisation like the NHS and a Trust like this. We don't always appreciate it for what it is, but I do believe it's a great place to work. There are some very exciting things going on.
"The maternity units on both sites are staffed by hard working, dynamic and positive people, and I want to ensure that continues. There's a real buzz about the place at the moment and that's fantastic. You only had to see what our team achieved over the snow period to see what they are capable of - we had midwives staying overnight just to ensure that our women were cared for and it made me tremendously proud to be a midwife.
"We are a really busy team, on both sites, but what pulls us through is a sense of team spirit and dedication to the job. I don't think you could be a midwife and work as hard as our team do if you didn't have a real passion for it."
Sally qualified as a nurse in 1984 and began training as a midwife almost immediately afterwards. She said: "During my training, I worked on a labour ward for a brief time, and I knew instantly that it was what I wanted to do.
"I am very passionate about being a part of the most exciting thing that can happen to a woman: becoming a mother. Giving birth is an incredible thing and our women and their families deserve the very best.
"Our challenge is to make sure that every woman walks out of this department completely satisfied with the care they have received and is looking forward to the new life that lies ahead of them."
Having been at the Trust for just six months, Sally is looking forward to the challenges ahead. She said: "My vision for the department is to make sure people in the team are recognised for their efforts and given the opportunity to develop their careers."
Away from work, Sally spends time with her husband Mogan and two and a half year old daughter, Yasmin. She said: "I like to spend my spare time with my family and enjoy doing homely things like cooking. My husband's Malaysian and shares my interest in different cultures and religions. I make a great lamb curry and I'm not bad at tying a sari either!"
