Once you have had time to think about why you would like to volunteer, how long you can commit and what activities appeal to you, please contact the appropriate group. The following process will generally be followed:
Step one: Initial meeting
This is an opportunity to discuss what you are looking for and what you would like to get from volunteering. The aim is to ensure that we match the right opportunity to the right person.
Step two: Application pack
You will be given an application pack- this consists of an application form which asks for two referees and an occupational health form, which asks some basic questions about your health. Some of our volunteers have quite complex health conditions- this does not mean that you cannot volunteer.
If you are going to come into contact with patients a Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) form will be completed that will provide police clearance to work with vulnerable people.
Step three: Paperwork
You will be contacted once we have received your references, occupational health form and CRB check. The length of this process is usually six weeks.
Step four: Health and safety training
You will be invited to our next induction training morning where you will meet other new volunteers and receive training and information about volunteering.
Step five: Placement
You are now ready to volunteer. You will be given an ID badge that needs to be worn at all times while you are on site and a parking permit so you can park in the staff car park at no cost.. If you are to become a corporate volunteer, you will be invited to meet the staff in your placement area who will supervise you on a day to day basis. We recommend that you commit a minimum period of six months to fully benefit from corporate placements.
