Dr Phanish obtained MBBS degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, India, followed by post graduate training in medicine at PGIMER, Chandigarh, India. He arrived in the UK in 1997, and obtained MRCP in 1998.
Dr Phanish completed Specialist Registrar training in Nephrology (Renal medicine) in Wales (UHW, Cardiff and Bangor) and London (Guys and St Helier Hospitals) in 2006. During this period he did a research project for three years at the South West Thames Institute for Renal Research (SWTIRR) in collaboration with Kings College Hospital, London leading to a degree of PhD in 2008.
Dr Phanish was appointed as consultant nephrologist at St Helier Hospital in 2007. He practices kidney transplant medicine and in-patient nephrology at St Helier, and has general nephrology and haemodialysis commitments at Croydon University Hospital.
Special interests and treatments
Kidney transplantation and transplant medicine, live kidney donor work-up, diabetic kidney disease, medical management of kidney-pancreas transplant patients.
Research interests: renal fibrosis, biomarkers of renal scarring and injury.
