Chief Executive presents staff with Award of Excellence for outstanding work

Staff at Epsom and St Helier hospitals have been honoured with a special award in recognition of delivering excellent care and inspiring leadership.

Three members of staff received the Chief Executive’s Award of Excellence recently, and were presented with a framed certificate and gift voucher to celebrate their achievements.

CEO Daniel presenting Award of Excellence to Audiology staff It was a particularly successful month for the Audiology department at St Helier, with two members of the team winning an award. Hazel Parry, Medical Technical Officer, and Jenny Ware, Assistant Technical Officer, were given their awards after receiving incredibly positive feedback from patients completing the Friends and Family Test. Just one of the comments left about Hazel said: “Hazel is helping me so very much. She is really kind and understanding and encourages me to work at my own pace. I really appreciate her.” Jenny’s feedback was also very positive, with one patient (amongst many), saying:  “Jenny was extremely helpful and gave me a good lesson in how to put the aids in properly. She was very patient too.”

Daniel Elkeles, Chief Executive, said: “We welcome feedback from patients and visitors about staff who deserve special recognition for their efforts. It was wonderful to hear about the excellent care Hazel and Jenny are giving their patients, and the positive impact this has on their hospital experience”, said Daniel.

CEO Daniel presenting Sister Mala Somrah with her Award of Excellence Sister Nilmala Somrah, Ward Manager on Croft Ward at Epsom hospital, was nominated by no less than six members of her team. The citations from her colleagues described Sister Mala as a “true champion of the ward, whoalways has time for her patients and staff” and “an excellent manager who inspires her staff and always puts the patient first.” On presenting Sister Mala with her award, Daniel said: “It was fantastic that so many of the team nominated Sister Mala and were there when she received her award. It is clear that the team are truly proud to work with her and I was utterly delighted to present her with the Award of Excellence.

“We have an outstanding staffing body who work incredibly hard to deliver great care to every patient, every day. The Award of Excellence is an important way of recognising those who have achieved something particularly special or who have gone above and beyond in their work. Presenting the awards is always a real highlight for me”, said Daniel.
