Come along to Epsom and St Helier’s Catheter Care Awareness Week drop in event

Epsom and St Helier hospitals will be hosting a drop in event on Wednesday 20 June at Banstead Community Hall for all catheter users and their carers as part of Catheter Care Awareness Week (18 - 24 June).

The drop in event will take place on Wednesday 20 June from 10am to 12noon in Banstead Community Hall, Park Road, Banstead, SM7 3BS and will feature various stands exhibiting different catheter related products, talks about different aspects of living with a catheter and will include the chance to speak to a number of  healthcare professionals  who will be on hand to answer any questions or queries.

Daphne Colpman, Nurse Consultant for Continence and Urology said: “We are holding this special event as we believe it is important for catheter users and their carers to be able to talk about any issues or concerns that they may have about the condition or equipment. We understand that sometimes people may not know where to go for information so we hope this event will help to raise awareness about catheters and encourage more people to talk and share information.

“The main problems associated with urinary catheters are infections in the urethra, bladder or, less commonly, the kidneys. These types of infection are known as urinary tract infections (UTIs) and may need to be treated with antibiotics. This is why it's important that catheters are inserted correctly, maintained properly, and only used for as long as necessary. It’s possible to live a relatively normal life with a long-term urinary catheter, although it may take some getting used to at first – but we’re here to help!”

The drop in event will take place at Banstead Community Hall, Park Road, Banstead, SM7 3AJ. Free parking is available, and there will be disabled access. The local bus routes are the S1 and 820 (alight at The Woolpack).
