‘These boots were made for… Walk4Wards’ – help raise funds for ESTH

Patients, staff and local residents are invited to help Epsom and St Helier put their best foot forward this year, by joining a fundraising walk between the two hospitals on Sunday 29 March.

To mark the Trust’s 21st anniversary, Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Charity are hosting their second ever Walk4Wards event – an eight mile walk that starts at Epsom Hospital and ends at St Helier, taking in the sights of Epsom, Nonsuch Park and Sutton High Street along the way.

Chief Executive Daniel Elkeles said: “We hosted our first ever Walk4Wards event last year, and it was such a success that we decided to turn it into an annual event. More than 200 people took part in 2019, raising a whopping £29,000 for good causes across our hospitals and community services.

“There was such a community feel about the day – people of all ages joined us, from babies in prams to people in their 70s, and everyone had their own reasons for being there. Some people walked in memory of a loved one who had been cared for by us, some staff raised money to make improvements in the area where they work, and former patients raised funds for the specific wards and departments that mean something to them. Whatever your reason for taking part, we hope lots of people can join us for the return of Walk4Wards in 2020!”

Participants are welcome to choose which ward or department they would like to raise funds for, or can simply collect sponsorship for the Trust as a whole – just let us know when you register! If you would like any more information about the event or the route, please email esth.charity@nhs.net or call the team on 01372 735262 or 01372 735261.

For those who don’t fancy the full eight mile trek but would still like to support the fundraising event, there are a number of opportunities to get involved. You can volunteer as a marshal to help direct our Walk4Ward ramblers and cheer them along the route, or can lend a helping hand at the start or finish line – simply get in touch for more information.

Registrations are open now, so why wait? Register online at www.epsom-sthelier.nhs.uk/walk4wards, or call the Fundraising Team on 01372 735262 or 01372 735261. Once registered, participants will receive further details of the route, training tips, and timings ahead of the big Walk4Wards date.
