Clinical Assessment Service (CAS)

What is the Clinical Assessment Service?

The Clinical Assessment Service (CAS) is a service for GPs to refer patients to hospital Outpatient services using the national Electronic Referral System e-RS. Once we receive your referral, the specialty team you have been referred to will clinically review your referral. After clinically reviewing your referral, the clinician/nurse practitioner will decide one of the following outcomes:

  • You are contacted by our specialist CAS admin team to arrange an Outpatient appointment (this may be a face to face, telephone or video appointment).
  • You receive a letter from our CAS admin team to advise you that our medical colleagues have been able to give your GP or nurse advice about your care, so they can look after you further without you having to have a hospital appointment.

If you require an appointment, our team will make multiple attempts to call youPlease be aware the call may appear as unknown caller.

If the team are unable to contact you, a letter will be sent to prompt you to contact us within 14 days. If we have not heard from you within the specified time, you may be discharged back to your GP.

Please ensure your GP has your most up to date contact details, as these are the details we will use to contact you about your referral.

Please contact the team on 0208 296 2968 if your GP has made a referral and you have not heard from us within  ten working days.
