NHS organ donation

An anatomical model of the major internal organs

Although not compulsory, everyone in the UK is now considered an organ donor unless they are part of an excluded group. Organ donation is the life-transforming and often the lifesaving procedure of removing a failing organ from a patient and replacing it with a healthy one from a donor. Usually, the donor is deceased, and permission for the procedure is granted before death. Organ donation NHS covers a range of issues, including how to ‘opt out’ of the system if you do not wish to have your organs donated. There is information on what it means to be a ‘Living Donor,’ why ethnicity is a key issue in organ donation, and how your decision to be a donor could interact with your faith and religion. There are resource guides written in several languages that are free to download.
