 This document sets out our achievements, successes and challenges for the past financial year. 2010-11 was a pivotal year for the Trust, heralding a number of significant improvements. Once again, we met the vast majority of the key standards the Government sets for NHS hospitals and, despite significant pressure, successfully balanced our books for the fourth year in a row.

 The Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC) is the first organisation in the NHS with a primary purpose to be a Centre of Excellence dedicated to hip and knee replacement surgery. The centre performs the largest volume of joint replacements in the UK (data from the National Joint Registry 2008); with over 50 different combinations of implant available to orthopaedic consultants ensuring a comprehensive choice of products for all our patients needs.

 2008-09 will be recorded as one of our best years to date, with the Trust meeting all of the key standards that the government sets for hospitals. Doing well against these is great for the Trust and, more importantly, excellent news for our patients.

 It has been a year characterised by challenges and changes, but above all significant improvements to many of the services we provide for patients. These improvements have been about the speed at which patients have been seen and treated, the quality of care they have received, and more efficient ways of working with patients to make their care more convenient and accessible.
