New arrivals help make Mother’s Day extra special

It was an extra-special Mother’s Day for some, as nine babies were born at Epsom and St Helier hospitals on Mothering Sunday this year.

With a total of three babies born at St Helier Hospital, and six at Epsom Hospital, there was plenty to celebrate! In addition to welcoming their new arrivals, the proud mothers were each given a beautiful soft toy and card of congratulations from the maternity team.

Tina Woodford, Consultant Midwife, said: “Mothers are special all year round, but Mother’s Day is the chance to do that extra something to show mums just how wonderful – and appreciated – they are. Mothering Sunday was particularly memorable for some women this year as they welcomed their new arrivals on the day itself! As a team we were keen to mark this double celebration, which is why we decided to get the gifts and card. Congratulations again to all our wonderful mothers!”

A special card, ‘bestest’ mummy keyring and two knitted hearts were given out to mothers in the Neonatal Unit at St Helier Hospital, which provides emergency care for new born and premature babies.

Carole Webster, Deputy Chief Nurse and Hospital Director for Epsom, said:  “We are proud to be part of what is such an important time in many women’s lives, as well as those of the babies and families we care for, and to have the opportunity to celebrate occasions like Mother’s Day with them. I hope the women who received these gifts had a wonderful Mother’s Day, and on behalf of the Trust I’d like to wish them and their families the very best for the future.

“I’d also like to thank the team in Maternity for this lovely gesture, which represents perfectly the care and thought they put into their jobs not just on Mother’s Day, but every day of the year.”
