£150,000 new outpatient area opens at St Helier

A brand new outpatient department, complete with a modern and spacious waiting area and four appointment rooms, has opened at St Helier Hospital following a £150,000 investment from the trust.

The new area is located on the ground floor of Ferguson House (F Block), and with two more consultancy rooms due to open in early summer, the new department is set to keep building on its early success.

In addition to the outpatient department being great news for those waiting for a general adult outpatient appointment – the investment is also fantastic news for those who have come to us for an emergency or planned CT scan. The creation of the new outpatient department means that there is now enough space to install the hospital’s second CT scanner in spring – meaning that patients who need these specialist scans can be seen and treated faster than ever before.

Clare Gately, Matron for Outpatients, said: “The development of this area really demonstrates the trust’s commitment to providing modern, comfortable space for our patients, as well as a working environment that enables our teams to deliver the best possible care to the people we look after.

“The space has been adapted specifically for the needs of our service and patients, and I think the creation of this new space and installation of our new CT scanner will deliver great long-term benefits for our patients.

“The outpatient area is a nice, bright, newly refurbished space and we are already getting great feedback from patients and staff.”

Chief Operating Officer Caroline Landon said: “This is a very exciting time for us, particularly with the many improvements we are making to our outpatient services. I am delighted with what’s been achieved with the new outpatient area at St Helier, which sets the standard in terms of bright, modern space that is tailor-made to support the care we provide.

“The fact that the creation of the new outpatient area has resulted in us having the right space to add another CT scanner is the cherry on top of the cake! Having a second CT scanner at St Helier Hospital is great news for our patients, and puts us at the forefront in terms of being able to provide more timely access to cutting edge diagnostic equipment.

“I know that all of our staff – me included – are really excited about the arrival of the new scanner, and the difference it is going to make for our patients.”
