gesh response to the Nottingham Maternity Review
This week saw the publication of Donna Ockenden’s report into maternity services at Nottingham University Hospitals – the largest maternity inquiry in NHS history, with around 2,500 cases investigated.
Michelle Cudjoe, Group Chief Midwifery Officer, said: "This report is deeply distressing, and our thoughts are with the families whose lives have been affected by the failings identified.
"We recognise that the findings may also be concerning for the women and birthing people currently in our care, and for our staff who are committed every day to providing safe, compassionate maternity services.
"At St George's, Epsom and St Helier Hospitals (gesh) we remain fully committed to delivering high-quality, safe and compassionate care. It is essential that we continue to listen to the voices of the women and families we care for, and to respond with empathy, openness and professionalism.
"You may have questions or concerns following the publication of this report. Your voice matter so please speak with your midwife or a member of the maternity team, who will be happy to provide support and guidance.
"We are committed to learning, continuous improvement, and ensuring that women and families are fully involved in decisions about their care."
