Review of the year and unveiling an equality pledge – join Epsom and St Helier’s annual meeting

Local people, patients and visitors are invited to join Epsom and St Helier for a look back at an unprecedented year in healthcare at their Annual Public Meeting, taking place via Zoom on Friday 11 September from 9.30am.

The jam-packed agenda will include a review of the year with Chief Executive Daniel Elkeles, an overview of our financial performance with Chief Finance Officer Rakesh Patel, a reflection on the impact of COVID-19 with Medical Directors Dr Charlton and Dr Marsh, the grand unveiling of the Trust’s new equality and anti-racism pledge, and publication of our brand new five year strategy. This year’s meeting, for the first time ever, will also include the formal approval and publication of the Trust’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Annual Report.

Chief Executive Daniel Elkeles said: “This year’s Annual Public Meeting will be like no other. Held via Zoom to protect our staff and guests from COVID-19, we will be paying tribute to the people affected by the virus, as well as the incredible work our dedicated teams put in during the last financial year, which included the difficult first few months of a global pandemic.

“But, we will also be looking forward. We are going to be celebrating the diversity of our staff and the people we serve, with the official unveiling of our pledge to equality and anti-racism with two giant banners on the front of our acute hospitals. Measuring 52 feet across at St Helier and 26 feet tall at Epsom, I hope this public pledge will be welcomed by and visible to all of our local communities.

“We’ll also be officially presenting our accounts for the last year (during which we made a surplus for the first time in recent history) and hearing an update on our plans to invest £500 million in refurbishing Epsom and St Helier Hospitals and building a brand new Specialist Emergency Care Hospital at Sutton. All are welcome to join us!”

The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

  • Welcome and introduction by Chairman Gillian Norton
  • Review of the year by the Chief Executive
  • Update on COVID
  • Building Your Future Hospitals
  • Presentation of the Annual Accounts 2019-20
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Questions from members of the public.
