St George's, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group appoints new Chief Nurse and Managing Director

St George's, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group ( gesh ) has today announced the appointment of  Chinyama Okunuga as Managing Director at Epsom and St Helier, and Tracy Luckett as new Group Chief Nursing Officer .    

Chinyama Okunuga is joining as Managing Director at Epsom and St Helier, and Tracy Luckett as our new Group Chief Nursing Officer .    

Chin is currently Chief Operating Officer at Whittington Health NHS Trust, where she has delivered sustained improvements in urgent and emergency care, elective  recovery  and cancer performance. She has led a whole-system Patient Flow Programme, improving discharge, reducing length of  stay  and strengthening partnerships across health and care .    

She brings extensive Board-level experience across quality, safety,  risk  and governance, alongside leadership of major programmes in patient safety and organisational resilience. Chin is also passionate about developing future leaders, founding several initiatives and is a founder member of the Black Women on NHS Boards network .    

Chin, who will join on 1 October 2026, said: “ I’m  excited to be joining  gesh  and getting to know colleagues across Epsom and St Helier. Delivering great care for our patients, both in our hospitals and out in the community, depends on strong teamwork and partnership.  I’m  looking forward to working together to keep improving access,  flow  and the overall experience for the people we serve.”   

Tracy is currently Chief Nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), where she is an Executive Director responsible for infection prevention and control, patient experience, safeguarding, and professional leadership of nursing and allied health professions .    

At GOSH, she has strengthened the senior team, launched a new nursing strategy focused on recruitment and retention, and led a nationally recognised workforce campaign. She has introduced Shared Governance Councils encouraging innovation, advanced the Trust’s mental health offer, and led the staff vaccination programme, achieving the highest uptake in London last winter .    

Tracy will join  gesh  in the  autumn ,  and  said: “Leading nursing is a real honour, and I look forward to working with our nursing,  midwifery  and allied health professionals across the  gesh  Group. Supporting people to deliver safe, high-quality care will be key, and  I’m  committed to building on the strong foundations already in place to improve care and experience for our patients and communities.”
