Planned chemical incident training exercise at St Helier
St Helier Hospital will be carrying out a planned training exercise this week, to test how we would respond in the rare event of a chemical incident.
Ahead of this exercise, which takes place on Thursday 18 September, we want to reassure people that this is not a real emergency. The exercise is part of national NHS requirements to make sure staff are prepared for all types of incidents and can continue to keep patients, visitors, and colleagues safe.
During the exercise, staff will practise using protective equipment and specialist decontamination tents. You may see unusual activity around the hospital, but please don’t be alarmed – services will continue as normal.
These exercises help us identify any improvements we can make and allow our workforce to build their experience in handling such emergencies. Our plans are tested regularly to ensure they are fit for purpose and to prepare us to respond to any incidents, should they occur.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we carry out this important training.
