The Traitors star to host NHS Oscars
GP, broadcaster and The Traitors UK star , Dr Amos Ogunkoya , will swap the Round Table for a round of applause this September as he hosts the 2026 gesh CARE Awards, celebrating the extraordinary people at St George's, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group ( gesh ) .
The winners will be uncloaked at a joyful ceremony at the iconic Kia Oval – generously sponsored by St George’s Hospital Charity, Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Charity and local businesses – for an evening dedicated to the NHS workers who go above and beyond for patients, families and each other
All 18,000 colleagues across the Group are eligible for an award , not just those in clinical roles.
From doctors, nurses and therapists , to healthcare assistants, receptionists, porters, cleaners, administrators, volunteers and many others , the awards recognise the vital contribution every colleague makes to delivering outstanding care.
Dr Amos is the latest TV star to pay tribute, as in recent years the charity-funded awards ha ve seen the likes of Lorraine Kelly, singer Beverley Knight and previous host Myleene Klass sharing their heartfelt gratitude and admiration .
Dr Amos said: "After the drama of The Traitors , I'm looking forward to an evening that's all about celebrating my NHS colleagues – and there ' ll be no banishments on the night!
"As a GP, I know healthcare is built on compassion and teamwork, and it's a real privilege to recognise the incredible people across St George's, Epsom and St Helier , who make such a difference to patients and their families every day."
Colleagues have nominated each other to recognise the ir achievements linked to the Group’s five-year CARE strategy to care for local people and keep them well, while one of the categories includes the public-nominated ‘Outstanding CARE of the Year’ Award.
For this accolade, patients, their families and carers have nominated a team or individual who delivered exceptional care in hospital or the community.
Mat Shaw, Group Chief Executive Officer of St George's, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group, said : “One of the best things about joining gesh has been meeting the brilliant people who work here. I spent much of my career as a doctor, so I know that great care is never down to one person – it takes a whole team, including lots of people patients may never even see.
“Most of them don’t come to work expecting a thank you or an award. They just get on with looking after people and looking out for each other, often on really tough days. So I’m looking forward to spending an evening making a fuss of them for a change.
“My thanks to Dr Amos for generously giving up his time for us. I’m told there’ll be no banishments, which is probably just as well with 18,000 potential nominees.”
The winners of the gesh CARE awards 2026 will be announced on 23 September.
Dr Amos became a firm favourite during the first-ever UK series of The Traitors , where he became the fastest reality show contestant to be eliminated within minutes of the opening credits, before making his return later in the show .
Away from the cameras , the London-based GP is a TV broadcaster, sport medicine specialist and personal trainer. He has also built a Faithful following of more than 35k on social media, where he shares trusted health advice and expertise .
He is al so known for his generous charity work. As well as being an ambassador for the British Heart Foundation, he ran the London marathon to raise money for the Anthony Nolan Trust and has worked with homelessness charity Crisis .
