Mr Ong trained at both Cambridge and Oxford medical schools, graduating with a Cambridge MA degree and Oxford medical degree.

Following this he spent time at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute, before training on the prestigious North London Ophthalmology training programme and at the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital and Western Eye Hospital in London.

Mr Ong is fellowship-trained in retinal diseases and cataract surgery. He has published research and presented at international conferences in places as varied as Seattle, Abu Dhabi and Budapest on age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

He is a surgical trainer to junior ophthalmic surgeons.
