Walk4Wards – join Epsom and St Helier’s 20th anniversary celebrations

Patients, local people and staff of Epsom and St Helier hospitals are being invited to put on their walking shoes and join a fundraising and celebratory event to mark the Trust’s 20th anniversary this April.

On Sunday 7 April the Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Charity will host the first ever Walk4Wards event – an eight mile (13 kilometre) walk starting at Epsom Hospital and ending at St Helier Hospital, via the sights of Epsom town centre, the woodlands of Nonsuch Park and down Sutton High Street (and avoiding the big hills of the Downs).

Walkers are free to choose which ward or clinical area they would like to raise money for, so if you or your family have experienced great care in a service and you would like to raise money for that area, just let us know when you register. For every pound raised by participants and generous members of the community, the Trust will match it and have ring-fenced £100,000 of next year’s capital budget for this purpose alone.

Chief Executive Daniel Elkeles said: “The Trust was officially established on Thursday 1 April 1999, and we see this milestone as a great opportunity to celebrate all that we have achieved, our long-standing contribution to the health and happiness of the people we serve, and the exciting future ahead of us.

“It’s no secret that Epsom and St Helier has faced some testing times in the past, but thanks to our staff (both past and present), the organisation has weathered those storms and in recent years we have proven to be a strong NHS trust with a track record of delivering key standards for patients and the healthcare economy.

“With all of that in mind, I think it’s only right that we celebrate – and what better way than to put our best foot forward and hold a fundraising walk between our two main hospital sites. This is going to be our charities flagship event this year, and so I really hope local people will get behind this event and make it a real community celebration.”

People who are interested in taking part can register online on our website (www.epsom-sthelier.nhs.uk/walk4wards), or can call the Fundraising Team on 07831 120356. Once registered, participants will receive further details of the route, training tips and timings ahead of the big Walk4Wards date.

There are a number of opportunities for people to support the event without having to manage the trek, so if you would like to volunteer as a marshal or a helper at the start or finish line, please do let us know.

To register, please fill in this online form: www.epsom-sthelier.nhs.uk/walk4wards.
