Security Operations Manager by day, crime novel writer by night!

A member of staff in the security team at Epsom and St Helier hospitals has signed a book deal with world-renowned publisher, HarperCollins.

Security Operations Manager, Paul Grzegorzek, will soon see his crime novel ‘The Follow’ on the shelves – ten years after self-publishing his debut work.

Paul said: “Securing a book deal with HarperCollins feels like a huge accomplishment and I am really excited about seeing it on the shelves. I have dedicated my career to security (and before that policing), and so to achieve something like this in my spare time is an amazing feeling!

“I self-published ‘The Follow’ over a decade ago, so for this to be picked up now by HarperCollins is great. I enjoy writing short stories in my free time (when not working  busy shifts at Epsom and St Helier) and draw upon my personal experiences for inspiration. In fact, ‘The Follow’ was written over ten years ago whilst I was working as a police officer in Brighton. I am very proud of the realism that I was able to include in the novel.”

Daniel Elkeles, Chief Executive, said: “As well as the brilliant job that our staff at Epsom and St Helier do, they also have many hidden talents and it is fantastic to see them expressing those talents! Paul’s achievement just goes to show that, with the NHS, you can have a fulfilling career and still have time to pursue other hobbies and goals. On behalf of the Trust, I would like to say a huge congratulations to Paul and I look forward to reading ‘The Follow’ once my paperback copy arrives.”

‘The Follow’ is a crime novel that tells the story of an Intelligence Unit Officer who is determined to seek justice after his partner is attacked and the culprit avoids jail. It is available to download from e-readers now. You can also pre order The Follow (paperback version) from Amazon, Waterstones or WHSmith for delivery on mid-March.

Paul is working on the sequel now, so watch this space for more from the Security Operations Manager turned crime writer!
