X-cellent praise: Radiographer receives Award of Excellence

A radiographer from Epsom and St Helier hospitals has been presented with the Chief Executive’s Award of Excellence after receiving 11 nominations from patients in a four week period.

Gillian Forest, who works as a senior radiographer in the X-ray Department at St Helier and as an advanced practitioner in the Urology Department at Epsom, was surprised to learn she had received so many nominations in just one month.

On presenting Gillian with her award, Chief Executive Daniel Elkeles said: “Gillian received an astonishing number of nominations from patients completing the Friends and Family Test, which is a truly fantastic achievement. Her patients were particularly keen to commend Gillian for her polite and friendly approach, as well as her excellent communication skills.

“It is clear that Gillian takes pride in her work and delivering great care to the patients that she sees, which is reflected not only in the number of nominations she received, but the feedback patients gave about their experience when in her care. The fact that she has been recognised for excellence in both of her roles, which involves working with patients  at Epsom and St Helier hospitals, as well as the Jubilee Health Centre in Wallington, makes this achievement all the more remarkable.

“I am extremely proud of Gillian for reflecting our values of putting the patient first and working as a team with her colleagues to provide great care to every patient, every day. My congratulations to Gillian and to both the X-ray and Urology departments which were also praised in the feedback received from patients.”

The Chief Executive’s Award of Excellence is presented each month to a member of staff nominated by patients, visitors and/or their colleagues. When feedback from patients and relatives in the Friends and Family test shows that a member of staff or volunteer has gone above and beyond the call of duty, or is mentioned by name, they are automatically nominated. In special instances the Chief Executive will ask that a ward or individual receives special recognition for the work that they have done in the trust. If you would like to make a nomination, please visit www.epsom-sthelier.nhs.uk/nominate. Winners are presented with a certificate and gift voucher in recognition of their achievement.
