Our bedside TV, phone and internet service

As a patient at one of our hospitals, you have access to a personal TV, phone and internet terminal for your individual use at most beds. This service is provided by Hospedia.

What can I do with the terminals?

Without paying any fee, you can receive phone calls on your personalised phone number and listen to a selection of radio stations. All you need to do is register your details to get you started.

By registering, you'll get your own phone number to give to friends and family. They simply call the number you give them and will be connected directly to your bedside. This number is a 08 phone number so charges apply for people calling you. Additional charges may apply from your network carrier.

Headphones are available at each bedside. Alternatively, you may bring and use your own if you prefer.

By choosing one of Hospedia's great value bundles (payment options are detailed below), you also get access to the services below:

Watch TV – you’ll get access to a number of TV channels, based no Freeview

Watch films on demand – you’ll get access to a range of on-demand films. You can start watching any of the films whenever you like, watch them as often as you want and pause/rewind them at any time.

Make phone calls - you can make free unlimited phone calls to any UK landline number (starting with 01, 02 or 03) as part of your bundle. Calls to mobiles from our bedsides are free but are capped at two minutes per call. Long distance calling is not possible and there is no payment required for calls.

Send and receive emails - your bundle also includes unlimited access to web-based email providers (like Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo). Simply log on to your existing webmail account and check your messages or send a message to your loved ones using the touchscreen keypad on your terminal.

Browse the internet - with any bundle, you can browse the internet as often and as much as you want. You can access almost any website apart from a few obvious restrictions (like age-restricted and adult sites or gambling websites) and you won't be able to install and use your own software or print any documents.

How much does it cost?

There are loads of different bundles to choose from to suit your length of stay and pocket.

All bundles run continuously: for example, if you start a 'two day bundle' at 2pm on Wednesday it will finish at 2pm on Friday.

You'll find up to date price information on the screen of your terminal.

How to pay for a bundle

Options for purchasing credit are as follows:

  • Purchase a Paycard with cash from one of the vending machines on the ward or around the hospital.
  • Use your credit or debit card to by a bundle by picking up your bedside phone. You will be connected directly to Hospedia's customer care team.
  • Use your credit or debit card to buy a bundle directly from the terminal at the touch of a button.
  • Pre-register and buy a bundle from home by calling 0345 414 1234. Hospedia's customer care team will advise you on packages most suitable for your length of stay. You can pre-pay for your packages from the comfort and privacy of your own home. On admission to hospital simply pick up the phone and press the 'operator' button to activate your terminal in a matter of seconds with your credit ready to use.

Friends and family can also call 0345 414 1234 at any time to top up your service.

How to use the terminals

Every terminal has easy to follow instructions to show you how to get started. If you get stuck or need advice just pick up the phone and follow the spoken instructions to be connected to Hospedia's customer care team. They are there to help you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

More information

The bedside terminals are operated by Hospedia. If you would like more information, or to read their terms and conditions, please visit the hospedia website or call 0345 414 1234. You may also pick up a leaflet from one of their vending machines around the hospital.

Free NHS wi-fi

As part of a national drive, led by NHS Digital, to make information more accessible to people using NHS services in England, free NHS wi-fi is now available across our hospitals.

To connect to the internet for free using the NHS Wi-Fi network, please follow these simply steps:

  1. Select ‘NHS Wi-Fi’ from the list of network names on your device.
  2. Read the terms of use on the next screen, and then click the ‘Accept & connect’ button to  join the network.
  3. Once connected, you will see a message saying ‘You are connected’ and your browser will be redirected to the NHS website.

This will give you 12 hours of access to the internet (if you remain on site). After 12 hours, or the next time you are in our hospitals, you will need to repeat the above process.

Please note that at this time the service does not allow you to stream music or videos.

If you have any problems with this service, please call Wi-Fi Spark’s 24/7 UK helpdesk on 0344 848 9555 (calls to 03 numbers cost no more than a national rate call to an 01 or 02 number and count towards any inclusive minutes).
