Psychosis

This section covers mental health conditions that are distinctive for causing psychosis.

Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia Schizophrenia is a mental health condition that is characterised by visual and auditory hallucinations, delusions and unusual beliefs, and confused thinking. A common element of living with schizophrenia is psychosis, but this can be experienced by people with other mental health conditions too. Aside from psychosis you may have symptoms like losing interest in everyday activities, avoiding social interactions, and not caring about personal hygiene. Schizophrenia is a highly misunderstood condition that leaves people with the condition vulnerable to prejudice and social exclusion. One of the biggest misconceptions about schizophrenia is that it makes someone dangerous or violent; the reality is that people with schizophrenia are far more likely to harm themselves or become the victims of violent behaviour. If you or a loved one is diagnosed with schizophrenia it is important that you have access to high quality information, medical advice, and support. The resources in this section will guide you to the support you need.
