Volunteer with The Friends
We are fortunate to receive support from a dedicated team of volunteers, who provide valuable services and support to patients, visitors and staff.
We are always looking for volunteers to help us - we need people who are reliable, friendly, patient, and who enjoy mixing with others and talking to people.
Our shop is open Monday to Friday (9am until 4pm) and Saturday mornings (9am until 12 noon). It is staffed by two volunteers from 9am until 1pm, and another two volunteers from 1pm until 4pm. A commitment to a specific duty is appreciated.
If you are not able to help regularly, you can be added to our reserve list (when you would be called to provide cover on an ad hoc basis).
We currently have openings for a volunteer to help us on Monday and Tuesday afternoons from 1-4 pm.
Our shop is an important part of the work we do, and provides The Friends with a steady source of income which is re-invested into the hospitals we support. The shop, which is located in the entrance to block A (Dorking Road) at Epsom Hospital, sells newspapers, magazines, toiletries, cuddly toys and other useful items for patients and staff, including second-hand books.
We are looking for someone to take over responsibility for ensuring that the shop runs smoothly, which includes providing a central point of contact for the shop volunteers and leading on ensuring stock is well maintained.
Two volunteers take newspapers (for sale) to the wards and patient areas around the hospital on a specially designed trolley.
Daily newspaper rounds operate Monday to Saturday from 9.15am and finish at approximately 11am.
We are urgently looking for volunteers to help on Monday mornings.
Warfarin Clinic host
The Warfarin Clinic runs every Tuesday morning. This is a busy clinic and is assisted with volunteers to help welcome and signpost patients from 9.30-11am.
Volunteer car service
Our car service is provided by drivers who volunteer to provide transport to hospital appointments for older or disabled people from the Borough of Epsom and Ewell and surrounding areas who wish to attend Epsom Hospital for appointments, or to visit friends or relatives. Patients are very appreciative of this service and, although it is free, often like to give a donation.
New drivers are always welcome and timings can be flexible - any time given is valued. Petrol costs can be claimed at 40p per mile. If you are itnerested in joining the volunteer car service or would like to know more, please contact George Foot on 01372 272257.
Would you hold an event, such as a coffee morning, to help promote the work of The Friends and raise money for the hospitals? If so, we would be very pleased to hear from you. We are also keen to hear from people who have experience of fundraising and would like to volunteer their time and expertise.
Duke of Edinburgh
Do you know a young person aged 16 who could help us by volunteering on a Saturday morning? If so, please get in touch!
If you are interested in any of the above opportunities, please email email@example.com or call Volunteer Co-ordinator Joan Harridge on 01372 726989. Alternatively, you can collect an application form from The Friends Shop.
