Biochemistry

The department of biochemistry offers a diagnostic and advisory service to the local and wider health economy. The department provides a comprehensive range of routine tests, some of which are available 24 hours a day. More specialist tests are also available.

Pathology services at Epsom and St Helier Hospitals are part of South West London Pathology (SWLP), a network of pathology services which serve Kingston, Croydon and St George’s Hospitals, as well at Epsom and St Helier.

The biochemistry laboratories use the latest technology for processing chemistry samples. We can perform a wide repertoire of blood, serum and urine analysis and offer one of the most extensive testing services in London.

Among many others, we provide analyses on:

  • vitamins
  • hormones
  • trace metals
  • lipids
  • tumour markers
  • drugs
  • poisons

These tests provide important diagnosis for patients and can indicate whether they have a number of conditions, including:

  • diabetes
  • cancer
  • liver damage or disease
  • bone and kidney disease

We have expertise in providing a fast and efficient service with the ability to deliver results electronically, providing instant access to results. We can also perform multiple tests from a single sample, saving time and resources.

We offer an extensive catalogue of tests with access to experienced clinicians offering clinical advice and interpretation.
